Blasts from the Past ou “cenas que tenho aqui por casa e até são bastante boas”, na minha opinião. 3 exemplos de música que passa abaixo do radar – para o grande público pelo menos – mas que vale muitíssimo a pena. 2 casos europeus e 1 caso Norte-americano, os 3 associados à cena Punk/Hardcore/Oi!

Comecemos pelos países nórdicos, mais especificamente, Noruega. Um fã de Heavy Metal, quando pensa em Noruega, pensa de imediato em igrejas (seculares) a arder, 23 facadas em “legítima defesa” e fjordes, para lá de Black Metal. Desta feita, não é de Black Metal que se fala, mas sim de Hardcore. Giant, um quinteto de Oslo, editou em 2011 esta Demo, que suponho que seja o único material editado pelos mesmos, vistos não ter conseguido descobrir mais. Aquilo que temos aqui é Old School Hardcore na veia de Youth Crew. Não pensem em SOIA ou Agnostic Front e esqueçam Madball ou H20, que são bandas soberbas, atenção! Estes Giant têm imensa melodia mas, ao mesmo tempo, uma enorme carga de raiva e necessidade de pontapear o Mundo. Demasiado curta, esta Demo tem pouco mais de 6 minutos, mas nunca o HC teve necessidade de alongar os seus hinos, certo? A quem agradará este sonoro? Pessoal que gosta de melodia, ainda que aprecie igualmente a sua dose de “porrada”. Falam em Warzone e Shelter. Check it! Um pormenor engraçado: a capa da Demo é a sessão fotográfica, original, em que o Michael Jordan fez a famosíssima pose que até hoje é visível nas suas sapatilhas e qualquer peça de merchandise. Queres ser boss? Escolhe o melhor, escolhe Black Jesus ahahahahah

Agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos da América, Boston, melhor cena Hardcore que a de NY. Hate me! 3 temas, 3 curtos temas num total de 3 minutos e 39 segundos. Short but accurate. Straight to the throat! A Triple-B Records é sobejamente conhecidas pelos fãs de Hardcore. “Casa” de imensas edições míticas, de ontem e de hoje, é daquelas labels que é um garante de qualidade. De Big Cheese a Mindforce, Ecostrike ou Dominant Force, competência acima da média é uma constante. “3 Song Promo”, de 2016 é a 2.ª Demo da banda depois de “Glory”, editada em Fevereiro de 2016. Não soa a NYHC – pois não é NYHC – soa mais rico, mais consistente, mais complexo. Sim, inclino-me mais para o que se faz em Boston que o que se faz em New York, isso é claríssimo. À excepção de Judge, não é cena que me diga muito. Bastante groove pesadão, acelerado sem exageros, vocais bem na linha de YOT ou GB… me likes! É Boston, chaps. Editaram ainda “The 12´”, em Novembro de 2016, onde a demanda é a mesma e a execução, igual. Portento de banda!

Nous venons d'arriver à Paris. Profitez de votre séjour, messieurs et mesdames. Le son? "La Violence"... Punk Oi! avec une touche Hardcorian. Devotos da cultura Skinhead em geral, estes parisienses editaram em 2018 "La Violence", duas malhas de Punk com todos os elementos do Oi! francês e um travo de Hardcore. A melodia do Oi, associada à melodia da língua francesa, resulta num produto final muito agradável. Os pormenores mais hardcore criam outra dinâmica, não muito usual no Oi. "Live at Peniche Alternat" foi editado em Março deste ano, e mostra a banda a tocar Oi no verdadeiro ambiente do género: o palco.

Let's start with the Nordic countries, more specifically Norway. Giant, a quintet from Oslo, edited this Demo in 2011, which I suppose is the only material edited by them, as they haven't been able to find out more. What we have here is Old School Hardcore in the vein of Youth Crew. Don't think about SOIA or Agnostic Front and forget about Madball or H20, which are superb bands, watch out! These Giant have immense melody but, at the same time, a huge load of anger and need to kick the World. Too short, this Demo has just over 6 minutes, but HC never needed to stretch its hymns, right? Who will please this sound? People who like melody, even though they also enjoy their dose of "punch". They talk about Warzone and Shelter. Check it! A funny detail: the Demo cover is the original photo shoot, in which Michael Jordan did the very famous pose that is still visible on his sneakers and any piece of merchandise. Do you want to be a boss? Choose the best, choose Black Jesus ahahahahah 

August 2016, United States of America, Boston, better Hardcore scene than NY. Hate me! 3 themes, 3 short themes for a total of 3 minutes and 39 seconds. Short but accurate. Straight to the throat! Triple-B Records is well known by hardcore fans. "Home" of immense mythical editions, from yesterday and today, is one of those labels that is a guarantee of quality. From Big Cheese to Mindforce, Ecostrike or Dominant Force, above-average competence is a constant. "3 Song Promo", 2016 is the band's 2nd Demo after "Glory", released in February 2016. It doesn't sound NYHC - because it's not NYHC - it sounds richer, more consistent, more complex. Yes, I lean more towards what is done in Boston than what is done in New York, that is very clear. With the exception of Judge, it is not a scene that tells me much. Quite a heavy groove, accelerated without exaggeration, vocals in the line of YOT or GB… me likes! It's Boston, chaps. They also edited “The 12´”, in November 2016, where the demand is the same and the performance, the same. Boom!

Devotees of the Skinhead culture in general, these Parisians published in 2018 "La Violence", two Punk knits with all the elements of Oi! French and a bit of Hardcore. The melody of Oi, associated with the melody of the French language, results in a very pleasant final product. The more hardcore details create another dynamic, not very usual at Oi. "Live at Peniche Alternat" was released in March this year, and shows the band playing Oi in the real environment of the genre: the stage.
