Última entrevista retirada do Volume I da Fanzine "Utopia Platafórmica", desta feita ao músico francês, Tenebras. Contador de estórias de mundos imaginários, Tenebras deu-nos a sua perspectiva do Black Metal, nesta curta entrevista.

Toulouse, nas margens do rio Garona, é um local de encantamentos e criaturas fantásticas. Formado por Tenebras e o irmão, Akhron (Soror Dolorosa), em 1997, Nuit Noire depressa se tornou numa realidade musical apartada de muito do imaginário que preenche o género.

Que papel desempenha o Black Metal na tua vivência diária? Como encaixa, na tua perspectiva de ver o Mundo e a Vida em geral?

Quando descobri o Black Metal, em meados dos anos 90, instantaneamente tornou-se o meu estilo de vida. Rapidamente deixei de ouvir tudo aquilo que tinha na colecção, e não era Black Metal. Fui imediatamente levado por este som, que me transportaria para os reinos mais escuros e distantes que eu poderia imaginar. Era jovem e acho que alguns adolescentes querem fugir deste Mundo de uma forma ou de outra, e o Black Metal foi a minha forma de escapar. Como adulto sou mais forte e recebo o mundo real muito bem agora, desse modo o Black Metal não é algo de que tenha necessidade hoje em dia, mas ainda me faz sentir tão bem viajar nos reinos escuros, e o bom Black Metal ainda me faz vibrar da mesma forma de antes. Acho que vai ficar comigo para sempre. Não sou daqueles que desistiram do Black Metal porque se "cansaram da cena", nunca me importei muito com a cena, foi sempre pela música em si, e é por isso que a minha banda era bem diferente das outras, e por esse facto nunca a rotulei de Black Metal. Tenho muito respeito pelo Black Metal para rotular Nuit Noire como Black Metal.

As premissas pelas quais se "guiavam" aqueles que deram origem ao género – 1.ª ou 2.ª vaga, como preferires – ainda persistem hoje, naqueles que criam?

Para mim, devemos fazer a distinção entre as bandas Black Metal e as bandas influenciadas pelo Black Metal. Algumas bandas são rotuladas de Black Metal apenas porque tocam alguns tremolo riffs ou têm aqueles guinchos semelhantes a Bathory, mas o que o Black Metal vai muito mais além disso. Tocar Black Metal não é sobre o estilo de riff, estilo de vocalização e estilo de bateria, não é sobre um tipo de instrumentação como a maioria dos géneros musicais, é sobre o espírito e a atmosfera que reside por trás disto. Claro que existe "Metal" no Black Metal, então é suposto ter guitarras pesadas, mas instrumentalmente é isso. Existem toneladas de bandas de tremolo riffs / blast-beat-drumming / vocais, que não deveriam ser rotuladas como bandas de Black Metal, para mim, são apenas bandas influenciadas por Black Metal, como Nuit Noire. Por outro lado, há bandas que soam totalmente diferentes de Mayhem, mas têm o espírito e a atmosfera Black Metal. Black Metal é sobre escuridão, maldade, negatividade, com guitarras barulhentas e uma atmosfera sombria e assustadora, e musicalmente pode assumir uma infinidade de formas. Hoje em dia, mesmo que a maioria das "bandas Black Metal" se sirva do Black Metal apenas como influência, ainda existem bandas que perpetuam o culto e procuram apenas criar algo sombrio, maligno e negativo, definitivamente. Na minha cidade tivemos Fornication, False Prophet, Darvulia, Besias, que eram bandas de Black Metal, e hoje Malhkebre ainda mantém a chama viva.

Que peso tem a vertente mística do Black Metal no momento de criação? Há essa conexão com a linha espiritual?

Completamente! É a minha ligação com o meu mundo interior da noite sem fim, que engendra as melodias e as letras que escrevo, sem esta ligação não conseguiria escrever nada, se um dia perder o ânimo, então, a única coisa a fazer será colocar um fim a Nuit Noire. Mas isso não vai acontecer, tudo isto faz parte de mim, está ao mesmo nível que o meu sangue, minha carne e ossos.

Como vês o panorama Black Metal actual? És da opinião que o género não é, hoje, mais do que um género musical sem essência alguma ou, pelo contrário, vê-lo como uma realidade fiel a princípios?

Sejamos sinceros: hoje em dia, "Black Metal" faz parte do vocabulário comum para caracterizar música que apresente tremolo riffs, batidas explosivas e guinchos parecidos com Bathory, não importa qual seja o espírito em torno da música. Ouvi dizer que há " Christian Black Metal". Mas ainda há bandas que criam Black Metal com espírito e, pessoalmente, são essas que considero como bandas de Black Metal. As outras são bandas influenciadas por Black Metal, na minha opinião. E também, não te enganes, eu não pretendo inferiorizar estas bandas! Nuit Noire é assim e, Summoning, banda pela qual sou completamente apaixonado, também é assim. Acontece que eu considero que o termo "Black Metal" é usado com muita facilidade. Mas, por outro lado, admito que é uma maneira conveniente de fazer uma descrição rápida de uma banda, quando necessário.

Que te motiva, hoje, a fazer Black Metal?

Nunca considerei Nuit Noire como Black Metal, mas o que me motiva a fazê-lo, hoje, é o mesmo que me motivou a fazê-lo quando comecei, há 23 anos: a vontade de transportar, para música, o meu Inner Nocturnal Fäerical World, a vontade que este mundo não viva apenas na minha mente, mas seja materializado pela arte, a vontade que a minha mitologia “exista” e seja compreendida por todos aqueles que ouvem a minha música.

Toulouse, on the banks of the Garonne River, is a place of enchantment and fantastic creatures. Formed by Tenebras and his brother, Akhron (Soror Dolorosa), in 1997, Nuit Noire quickly became a musical reality separated from much of the imaginary that fills the genre.

What role does Black Metal play in your daily experience? How does it fit, in your perspective of seeing the World and Life in general?

When I discovered Black Metal in the mid-90s, it instantly became my lifestyle. I quickly stopped listening to everything I had in the collection, and it wasn't Black Metal. I was immediately taken by this sound, which would transport me to the darkest and most distant realms I could imagine. I was young and I think some teenagers want to escape this world in one way or another, and Black Metal was my way of escaping. As an adult I am stronger and receive the real world very well now, so Black Metal is not something I need today, but it still makes me feel so good to travel in the dark realms, and good Black Metal still makes me feel good. vibrate in the same way as before. I think it will stay with me forever. I am not one of those who gave up Black Metal because they "got tired of the scene", I never really cared much about the scene, it was always about the music itself, which is why my band was very different from the others, and for that reason I never I labeled it Black Metal. I have a lot of respect for Black Metal to label Nuit Noire as Black Metal.

The premises by which those who gave rise to the genre were "guided" - 1st or 2nd wave, as you prefer - still persist today, in those who create?

For me, we must distinguish between Black Metal bands and bands influenced by Black Metal. Some bands are labeled Black Metal just because they play some tremolo riffs or have those squeals similar to Bathory, but what Black Metal goes much further than that. Playing Black Metal is not about the riff style, vocal style and drum style, it is not about a type of instrumentation like most musical genres, it is about the spirit and atmosphere that lies behind it. Of course, there is "Metal" in Black Metal, so it’s supposed to have heavy guitars, but instrumentally that’s it. There are tons of tremolo-riffs / blast-beat-drumming / vocals bands, which shouldn't be labeled as Black Metal bands, for me, they are just bands influenced by Black Metal, like Nuit Noire. On the other hand, there are bands that sound totally different from Mayhem, but have the Black Metal spirit and atmosphere. Black Metal is about darkness, evil, negativity, with loud guitars and a dark and frightening atmosphere, and musically it can take on a multitude of forms. Nowadays, even if most "Black Metal bands" use Black Metal only as an influence, there are still bands that perpetuate the cult and seek only to create something dark, evil and negative, definitely. In my city we had Fornication, False Prophet, Darvulia, Besias, who were Black Metal bands, and today Malhkebre still keeps the flame alive.

What weight does the mystical aspect of Black Metal have at the time of creation? Is there a connection with the spiritual line?

Completely! It is my connection with my inner world of the endless night, which engenders the melodies and the lyrics that I write, without this connection I would not be able to write anything, if one day I lose heart, then the only thing to do will be to put an end to Nuit Noire. But it will not happen, it is all part of me, it is at the same level as my blood, my flesh and bones.

How do you see the current Black Metal panorama? Are you of the opinion that the genre is, today, more than a musical genre without any essence or, on the contrary, see it as a reality true to principles?

Let's face it: today, "Black Metal" is part of the common vocabulary to characterize music that features tremolo riffs, explosive beats and squeals similar to Bathory, no matter what the spirit around the music is. I heard that there is "Christian Black Metal". But there are still bands that create Black Metal with spirit and, personally, these are what I consider to be Black Metal bands. The others are bands influenced by Black Metal, in my opinion. Also, make no mistake, I do not intend to make these bands inferior! Nuit Noire is like that, and Summoning, the band I'm completely passionate about, is like that. I happen to think that the term "Black Metal" is used very easily. But, on the other hand, I admit that it is a convenient way to give a quick description of a band, when necessary.

What motivates you, today, to make Black Metal?

I never considered Nuit Noire as Black Metal, but what motivates me to do it today is the same thing that motivated me to do it when I started 23 years ago: the desire to transport my Nocturnal Fäerical World to music , interior, the will that this world not only live in my mind, but be materialized through art, the desire that my mythology "exists" and be understood by all those who listen to my music. .
