Genocidal Sodomy – Slaughter from the East
I first heard of Genocidal Sodomy through their Split with Savage Necromancy. I was looking for straightforward, harsh and punishing Black Metal, and came across an album cover that caught my eyes! Gave it a go, and ended up quite surprised, to be honest. It has that Finnish + Asian Black Metal vibe to it but, at the same time, it has melody! I had the chance to talk to Necro Bloodthristy about the band and their music.
Thank you very much for giving us this opportunity. For starters, can you guide us through the band's route so far?
NB: Hail Daniel! Genocidal Sodomy is
influenced by black metal of bands like Blasphemy, Sarcofago, Archgoat,
Proclamation, Black Witchery, and we’re close friends in the Thai undergound
metal sence. It started when the drummer of the other band of mine,
Necrosadistik Khaos, moved to another city and didn’t have time to practice. We
didn’t want to kick him off so we maintained NK. Anyway, I still wanted to get
active so we were searching for a drummer in purpose of forming a new band with
a different style in the scope of death/black metal. I asked Genocide Inducer
about forming Genocidal Sodomy and he was keen.
You started, as Genocidal Sodomy, in 2017, and you all come from several bands. What was the reason to start another band? New ideas that did not fit in any of your bands you already had?
NB: As mentioned in the previous question. We were searching for a new band.
Genocide Inducer is a beast! Plus we had tons of ideas on creating some
death/black bestiality.
How do you define your sound? Your Split with Savage Necromancy, along with the "Bestial sound", has this more melodic/slower side to it, which turns out amazing!
NB: Thanks! I’d simply call it death/black metal. Some
people, as you know, call it war metal. Glad you dig the shit.
What are the bands that inspired you to play this line of music?
NB: Blasphemy, Archgoat, Black Witchery, Proclamation,
Conqueror, Revenge
Where do you draw inspiration from? What is the message behind your lyrics?
NB: All lyrics are inspired by the
Book of Genesis and throughout the Hebrew Bible as well as the Quran and the
hadith or the other holy fucking bibles. They say the same about the God punishment,
God always win the war, the land of curse, and the sinners must be detroyed by
the holy fire of God blah blah blah… and sure we give the middle finger to it
and apply the stories againt all gods that they quote about.
How is the Heavy Metal scene in Thailand? Most bands I know, that come from that part of the World, are very much into the more Bestial/War Black Metal genre. Can you give a hint for that to occur?
NB: Brutal death and grindcore bands
keep emerging, while black, death, and thrash metal bands go downhill, but we have great
black/death/trash metal bands like Surender of Divinity, Zygoatsis, Nuclear
Warfare, or Savage Deity.
Everything you recorded, until this day, was released
independently. What is the reason for you to still do it that way?
NB: We don’t wait for opportunities, we just work hard
and release the shit. If we do it great labels will be
naturally be keen to release some of our stuff.
How was growing up, as a Heavy Metal fan, in a country
from Southeast Asia? How was the Heavy Metal scene in your younger years?
NB: Back in the day around the mid 1980s, SEA had many good
bands and die hard fans to support the local sence. Heavy metal was among the
first to listen to… so we had a chance to see great bands like Metalica [early],
Iron Maiden, Slayer, Sodom, etc. Metalheads were always eager to support all
metal bands. In those days a lot of metal bands were born every
year, until 2000s there were fewer metalheads.
How is the Thai Heavy Metal scene, today? And what about new bands? Have recent years seen the appearance of new bands?
NB: As said we have many new brutal death and grindcore bands emerging every
year but for black, death, and thrash metal it’s the opposite.
What bands from Asia have, in your opinion, reached higher than most?
NB: Impiety [Singapore],
because they have been steadfast in their style. Well, sometimes they change their
music style, but they always remain faithful in their souls.
NB: Revenge. I’m obsessed with their shit from the first release to the present one.
Can you give us your 5 fundamental releases of all time? Not necessarily the ones that influenced you to play the specific genre of music you play.
- Discharge : "Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing"
- GG Allin : "Public Animal #1"
- Metalucifer : "Heavy Metal Chainsaw"
- Blood Incantation : "Starspawn"
- Spectral Voice : "Eroded Corridors of Unbeing"
Can we expect a new release from Genocidal Sodomy in a near future?
NB: Sure. We got a 5-way split with Hellfire Deathcult (USA), Sarinvomit (TUR), Muert (ESP), and Fornicatador (AUS) coming up. Also a split with Savage Necromancy (USA), this one is to be out as a single-sided lathe-cut 12” picture disc from a local label Noise Generate Lathe Cut Records.
As you know, I am writing from Portugal. What do you know about the Portuguese Heavy Metal scene?
NB: I don’t know about Portuguese heavy metal Scene as much as the football scene there including L.Figo or C.Ronaldo, but yes I am a black metal fan and have many favourite bands from Portugal such as Decayed, Corpus Christii, Onirik, Nethermancy, Morte Incandescente. As I’m answering this interview I’m litening to Necrobode.
In conclusion: thank you very much for your words and your time. Hope more conversations might come, in the future.
NB: It’s cool answering your questions man. There’s already some groundwork. We
have a general idea of the full-length, regarding the concept and artwork. Thank
you so much for the interview.
