How hard did it hit you? C’mon You Know.

The year is 2022, and Liam Gallagher is still very relevant. Ah, bet you were not expecting that, right? Well, let me be honest: neither did I. after 2 relatively cool albums, I always thought he would carry on with a cool carrier, nice tunes, awesome hairdos, and superb parkas. And I very much believed his brother would take the prize, but, I grew tired of his music quite quickly, and I was not expecting that to happen. C’mon, the man wrote some of the songs of my life – a lot, to be sincere – and I did not paint the picture we have today. He is running away from the Rock n’ Roll feeling and into a different shade of grey, and I do not enjoy it.

Liam was always the soul of Oasis; Noel did write the tunes, but the guy that called out to people, the one people related to, was Liam. This is the working-class lad that made it big! Should we hate him for that? No way, sir. We should, in my opinion, salute him for what he accomplished. And in terms of music, “C’mon You Know” is a statement of longevity and quality. Do his tunes sound like Oasis? Not quite. He does not have Noel next to him, and that weights a lot on his music. But his voice is back! And it is all there, all the things you loved about the bloke, all the things that lead me to adopt his hairdo and his glasses, way back in my teen years. I do not see him as a musical genius, nor a fantastic singer. His voice is nowhere close to the likes of other British legends, and his mastery of the trade is very limited. However, he has something a lot of them do not: charisma and a “fuck off” attitude. Funny how he is, now, so big among the younger population, who look at him like we did back in the 90s. Curious, isn’t it?

If I remember correctly, his first single for this album was “Everything’s Electric”, and it did not have a big impact on me (Grohl is in there). Maybe I was expecting a new “Once” or “Wall of Glass”, for example, so I left it a bit aside. Truth is, I haven’t kept up with his movements for a while, so I was surprised to see that his new album was out. Ran immediately to check it, and it went cool, you know? Lad got class and style, even after all these years. But the music… oh man! He did Knebworth on the 3rd and 4th of June. 160.000 people gathered to see him, mas the setlist was biblical. Probably the one he’s bringing to Rock in Rio Lisbon.

But back on track. None of the tunes sound out of place; they all fit the Liam Gallagher creative line; you know? I dare say the man has crafted a sound of his own. That is not easy, and not all musicians reach that point in their careers, but I just that about Liam Gallagher. Again, he is not the best musician in the World, but he has that something. And the emotional side of it is very well enrooted in me. You got the almost ballads, and I know “Too Good for Giving Up” will be a massive stadium pleaser! It sounds massive, massive, massive! Then you jump into this sequence: “Everything’s Electric”, “World’s in Need”, “Moscow Rules”, and “I’m Free”. All different, but all relatable. “Moscow Rules” risks being one of my favorites Liam songs, ever. That chorus is bloody good.

And the man is not afraid to risk more than one mellow and “sweet” songs, on the same album. It is remarkable how he remains relevant… and with quality. “I’m Free” and its Reggae groove in there. “Now this is odd”, I said to myself when I first heard it, but it fits the mood of the song. This one will be amazing to play live!

Neither him, nor his brother, leave me anxious for their new releases the way Oasis did. It’s a love affair. It goes back to when I had no moustache at all. Nonetheless, it is always breathtaking to see that these idols are still at it, with claws out and blood boiling. You get that from these tunes, you can almost feel that Liam’s blood is boiling with passion and an urge to scream, from the top of his lungs, that he is still alive, that he is still here! D’you know what I mean, mate? Ah, the beauty in musical cords and contemporary lyrics. Modern beats, like the one on “Diamond in the Dark”, which is not a Rock n’ Roll song, right? But a killer track, nevertheless. We could go through all the tracks, dissect every cord and verse, but in the end, we would easily conclude that R Kid is back, and I am bloody happy to here to great him.

Too bad is a Man City fan, meh.
