To
celebrate 2 decades of Black Metal with IRAE, what better way than to release a
new album. I was very curious to hear what was next in Vulturius' creative
path, and when it dropped, it was what I was expecting: Black Metal to the
core, with some different nuances.
Irt
was him who said "… it would suck if i spent my time doing the same, Black
Metal has many directions still doing it". With that being said, and him
performing at tomorrow's Invicta Reqviem Mass, alongside Morgal, Vetala, and
Ventr, for the 2nd night of the event.
20 years is quite a big number, if I may. How has the adventure
been throughout these years?
Great! I have had been doing what I like the most since my youth and I am eager
to continue this journey.
I see “Lurking in the Depths” as a sound changer, while always
keeping focus in the Old Sound. Can we say that the various projects you are
involved in helped shape an almost renovated Vulturius, open to more audible,
per se, experimentation?
In other projects i try to explore everything that i don´t do with Irae but
through all my years in bands and music it is normal to gain some habits and
formulas that i try to contour so i guess all is a question of imagination and
feeling also playing with other elements open you musical virtues and context,
but yes “Lurking in the Depths” is a different album and our course was
intentional, it is a part of my musical development, notice that by now
im with 40 Irae releases so it would suck if i spent my time doing the same,
Black Metal has many directions still doing it.
“Dangerovz Magick Zpells from the Mesziah of Death” was an amazing
release; one where we see you, again, going in various directions, addition of
new elements, and whatnot. Were you expecting people to receive it with such
passion? It did hit me in the face when I first heard it, but it grew, and
grew.
I did not notice such a great reception, but I am completely satisfied with it.
Is it possible that people are starting to expect the unexpected from
you? Overall, it is Black Metal, plain and simple, but you keep adding new
elements, which keeps it refreshing. Is there still a need for you to break
barriers?
Like I said before, I am always thinking, imagining, dreaming, and trying to
improve my works with the same devotion, as ever. Sometimes working better than
others, but the conviction still remains the same.
You joined forces with Mário Rodrigues for A Forest of Stars, a
slightly different approach to Black Metal than yours. Is it possible that
having contact with different shapes and forms of Black Metal led to what we
hear in your latest release? Not that IRAE became an Atmospheric Black Metal
act, of course.
Mário is a good composer and like me always know what he want, however
concerning Black Metal we have different approaches which is a good thing for A
Forest of Dreams, about Irae it always was very personal, it's my world and i
try to express myself the best and it's normal to highlight my main instrument
the guitar” as well as adding new elements to deliver the best to the beast.
Invicta Reqviem Mass is near, and it will be like a celebration,
in a way. What can people expect from this specific gig, considering you have a
lot of ground to cover in terms of discography?
It's always special and
will be focused on my latest works ``Lurking in the depths, Dangerovz Magick
Zpells from the Mesziah of Death” and “Assim na terra como no Inferno.”
However, we played this previous weekend before in “Mosher Fest”, 26th in
Grosserlach together with Morte Incandescente and Goatblood, then “Invicta
Requiem Mass” and later in 18th December “o Cerco da Noite” with Corpus
Christii, Law of Contagion and Ventr.
One quick question: how did the split with Nihil Invocation come
about? Is Deathwalker a musician with whom you identify in terms of how he
embraces the genre, for example?
We´ve been talking for some time now and decided to do a split, as simple as
that, it´s available in digital format but will be pressed in vinil by NWN and
in cd by SignalRex.
What can we expect from Vulturius for the future? Always Black
Metal, I reckon. Is there still a thirst for Black Metal? Does Black Metal
still play an important role in what you are, as an Artist?
Black Metal has been present in my everyday life for some decades as a fan but
also as a musician and it is what I like the most.
Once more, it was a pleasure. Will be waiting for the unexpected,
as always. May Invicta Reqviem Mass be an amazing performance, with IRAE and
Morte Incandescente. Cheers.
Thanks for the interview, best regards. Cheers.
After the interview was conducted we learned that Morte Incandescente and Holocausto em Chamas would not be performing at the 6th edition of Invicta Reqviem Mass.
