Vintlechkeit

Frozen Spirits

Thank you very much for your availability, and welcome to this humble publication. It is a pleasure the opportunity you have given me. Formed in 2017, you have since edited around 30 releases. It shows the extent of your creativity, as a band, but what was your path until you decided to go ahead with Vintlechkeit?

Nothing out of the ordinary. We've played together and apart in a lot of underground bands most people probably never heard of. In over 90% of cases there are barely any session recordings or videotapes left.

2020 was, for you, and unlike many others in the most varied areas of the Society, a productive year (10 releases: Demos, Splits and Compilations). How did your creative process change - if at all - with this new reality?

Everything stays about the same - we gather and improvise. It's a rare case if some of us have any pre-planned guitar riffs or something of the sort. At the moment we are a bit occupied with repeatedly getting drunk instead of creating new material (we're obviously no christians so any holidays we get we use for self-destruction), most probably we will be back to work soon enough.

Can I ask you for a description of your creative process? As I mentioned above, you are a group of musicians who produce musical works like few others, in addition to the fact that you are all multi-instrumentalists. Does this make it easier to express ideas?

I think I've already answered this in the previous reply - generally it is pure inspiration. It's not important who plays the guitars and who is the drummer. What matters is entering a creative resonance and coming up with an atmosphere that will appeal to all three of us.

What is your music, specifically? The lyrical load, supported by the instrumental aspect, with terrifying environments, make this a soundtrack for despair and desolation. Is this the message you want to send?

It's just the thing we like doing most. I dare to assume that by listening to our rituals people can imagine anything they like, so we don't publish any lyrics or photos of band members (perhaps there is no "we" and all music is composed by a single person, who knows?). Everything is kept ambivalent and blurry. What matters is the mood and atmosphere. The very presence of both of these components is what defines our music.

Where do you go to get the inspiration / influences to create the sound you create? The Nature that surrounds you, and the overall characteristic geography of Norway, I venture to say, can be considered as fundamental to your sound, or am I wrong?

Quite right. We also enjoy books and movies, as a matter of fact each of us has some personal preferences, in musical tastes as well. But the main source of inspiration and the idea behind Vintlechkeit is obviously nature and winter in particular. A feeling of timelessness.

Something that surprises me is the fact that you prefer to stay away from publishers, choosing to edit all of your work independently and digitally. What is the reason, or reasons, for doing so?

Actually we have worked and are still working with multiple labels. We just don't sign any contracts with them. That is our principled position.

How do you admire the reality associated with Black Metal today, and how do you see yourself within it - if applicable? I don't consider your sound to be in any way linear and unidimensional, so I can't insert it, in its entirety, within the spectrum of Black Metal.

The genre has become a part of mass culture a long time ago, but it doesn’t concern us in any way. We simply preffer doing our work and not judge the actions of others, as we don't really give a damn about them.

How do you think this pandemic has changed our view of the world and if the effect on Black Metal will be felt, especially if we take on the more misanthropic side of it?

We've always valued our privacy and none of us are keen of becoming public. The pandemic actually helps us by limiting interactions with the outside world even more, so in a way the whole covid-circus benefits people like us.

What can we expect for the future? Once again, my thanks for the opportunity. I hope that the future will bring us more opportunities for dialogue. Greetings.

Expect more rituals and physical releases in the future. Hails to everyone who follows and supports Vintlechkeit.
