Fear The Lord
“South Scythe”
(No Exceptions Records, 2020)

26 years later we ended up in the South Bank of the river, again. Margem Sul was, for 12 years, home. Learned a lot about plenty of things, and Music was one of them. I normally say that back in the day, if you lived in MS, you would have access to all genres of music, and not just A or B, and I still stand behind that statement. From Rap to Rock n’ Roll, from Heavy Metal to Dance Music, we were exposed to everything… drugs and violence was present as well, but never mind that. That initial construction of the Person shaped the way I look at Music, and that is why I jump all over the spectrum, and appreciate so many layers. Enough about me…

Margem Sul Hardcore is an institution. The acronym MSHC stands for something. Once you heard those letters you know something good is boiling! Bigger than NYHC, punks ahahah from Old-school heavyweights like 69 Balls, Last Hope, Newt or Campo Minado, or even a name like Steal Your Crown (“Black Souls” will always be a hell of a track) to the central character of this review - Fear The Lord - the scene is going strong and very well-respected by all those who are into Hardcore. Musically speaking, these lads show that although they “belong” to a specific genre, their creativity roams to the end of the Earth and back. I need to point out that I love the WTC piece in “Behind Christ”. Much respect! These are the things that add up quality to the end product. Think about it…

Their Hardcore is hard and abrasive, leaves no prisoners, and burns everything they touch! Not a straight forward Hardcore band, and it might need a few listening sessions to get into. Not the standard Melodic Hardcore band, that is certain; those Beatdown moments really get me. Not a fan of Beatdown, I have to be honest. I am very picky when it comes to Hardcore, but these guys… The thing is when they drop it, they really drop it, and all Hell breaks loose! God damnit! It took me a while to get into their sound, and I always thought they were less Hardcore and more Beatdown, and this may well be correct, but their fusion of genres, ideas, whatever, got me hooked! Man, “Southside” is heavy as shit… Beatdown is strong with this one.
