Sacrificio
“Guerra Eterna” (Iron Bonehead Productions, 2016; Down With the Most High, 2022)

Sacrificio was a 3-piece band that was put together by lads from Proclamation, Prophets of Doom, and Teitanblood. All these projects have given us enough quality material for us to expect excellency from this new entity. Do we get excellency? We might not get excellency, but we get a very good replica of early Black Thrash Metal, and that is fine by me. Hellhammer and Bathory are amongst the bands I consider essential in the creation, and development, of the Black Metal genre. They might not have been to most creative ones, but their ferocious and almost visceral approach to Music was more than enough to craft this so special genre.

Plenty of bands have tried to emulate the sound of those special bands, those “Founding Fathers”, and many have been able to do so. Obviously, one will always feel that there is something missing, but we are still able to enjoy ourselves, and feel nostalgic. I did not live those early days, but some bands are eternal so we will always start from there to understand how it all started. Sacrificio is sort of that if I may. Can we look at them like a History class? In a way. Their sound is an homage to the Old Ones, to the ones that started all this adventure. “Vástagos de la Abominación” is reminiscent of Venom, and I love it! It has the Punk facet, and those harsh vocals provide the music with that haunting effect. I honestly prefer when they are more… Hellhammer and Bathory oriented. “Centinela de los Túmulos” is a good example of what the band offers in terms of background work: chorus, orchestral arrangements, etc. however, this is also an example that the band sometimes gets “lost”, shifting from A to B with weak connectors. It does not harm the music, to be honest, it just makes it sort of weaker. This specific example ends up sounding a bit odd, and all due to the mentioned before: what are the guidelines of this tune, lads?

“Guerra Eterna” closes the record, and that initial riff is amazing! Sacrificio is, in essence, a Black Thrash band, and does it very well. Their aim is not to reinvent the genre, but to pay homage to their influences and to a special moment in time.
