Out 4 Blood / Free 4 All
"Blood 4 All" (Hive Minded Records, 2023)
OKC Hardcore Tag Team is the shit! Out 4 Blood and Free 4 All join forces and blast through us with ease. This is a different definition of the genre, a bit more modern, with hints of… Downbeat and such (not as violent as, of course). Hard as fuck, punching us over and over again.
Out 4 Blood starts off with 2 very solid tracks of Pain and Inflicted Hurt… you get it, right? The way they bash you down, over and over again, is tremendous. And melody, the melody! You can be violent and melodic, right? Of course, and O4B clearly shows it. A stripped down, and visceral, Hardcore beast in motion. In ”Heart Goes Cold” we have these Thrashy riffs that take it to a different level, and along with the double bass drum and all… hard. Well, to call them a modern Hardcore band might be a long stretch; they fuse sounds and that, and it ends up being a hellish beast.
Free 4 All comes next and brings forth a slightly different perspective if Hardcore. Still hard, still powerful, still visceral, but they seem to be more classic and Old School sounding, a more classical approach to Hardcore. “Hold it Close” is quite a groovy tune, with very solid breaks. Biohazard in the house? Either way, the closer track is on fire, no doubt. And it is a long one for Hardcore: 4 minutes and 6 seconds. Wow, this is half the length of a Demo!
2 Beasts, together, for mayhem.
Doomsday
“Doomsday” (Creator-Destructor
Records, 2023)
Well, the Crossover Hardcore Thrash beast is on the move, and bands like Foreseen and Enforced, just to name two of the big names at the moment, are taking the Crossover genre to new hights. And do not forget Power Trip, please. I am hardly a massive fan of Crossover. To me, all that sounds like a deliberate mix of several genres, becomes hard to read and, therefore, harder to absorb. Black and Death Metal, for example… argh! Now, the Hardcore & Thrash thing has always sounded less “misplaced”. Hardcore and Punk have Thrash in it, at times, so it is not that hard to assimilate.
Doomsday is a Californian band that has been around since 2021 (“Agony Blossoms Fear/Soul Depravation” dates back to the 8th of July 2021), and “Doomsday” is their latest power discharge. I would say the line between the Thrash elements and the Hardcore elements is very thin on these young lads. I would not call them a Hardcore band, but I would not call them a full-on Hardcore band either. Well… maybe more Thrashy than “Hardcorian”, perhaps.
Their sound is very solid. Strong riffs and a fast tempo,
a true invitation to mosh and headbang, and in under 8-minutes they offer
smashing solos and thunderous drumming, while the vocals are harsh and killer.
Overall, a blast of an album, sounds from the Past and the Hardcore groove
peaks its head here and there. Massively massive. Call it Thrash, call it
Hardcore Thrash or Crossover, I give 0 Fs, but call it good.
