Bloedmaan
“Vampyric War in Blood”
(Immortal Frost Productions, 2025)

A deep review of Bloedmaan’s “Vampyric War in Blood” (2025), a Castlevania-inspired melodic black metal album by Ronarg. Vampiric, dynamic, powerful.

Bloedmann’s first release, “Castle inside the Eclipse”, came as a surprise, I dare say. The idea of an almost Castlevania inspired Black Metal project, was something I did not have on my bucket-list, but gladly someone had this amazing idea, and it works out pretty well. Ronarg, man of many projects and ideas (Antzaat, Ars Veneficium, Ronarg), is the sole creator of this vampiric Black Metal entity.

Unlike many other, Bloedmaan does not use the figure of the vampire, the construction of a vampiric entity, the overall universe in which we set the figure itself, in a childish way, in a weak version of what the character “asks for”. The treatment given to said figure is very well-constructed, very well-developed, never letting it fall into a mockery. With that, the music itself rises to the same level, and the end-product is masterful.

Following the line previously set forward with “Castle…”, “Wampyric War in Blood” is a masterful Melodic Black Metal album, dynamic and fluid. One could almost use the terms “catchy”, but purists would take it personally and downplay the music, which would be suicidal, in my opinion. I have stated, more than once, that I have, slowly, crawled out of the Raw Black Metal hole I was in, and restarted discovering – and reenjoying – Melodic Black Metal, and such a release is perfect. Again, balance is quite present in this release, never letting it fall into immensely melodic, nor unrestrained aggressiveness. That balance really is important and makes the listening experience a very pleasant one.

“Commander of Spectral Forces” is a great tune, one that truly stands out. The rhythm, almost Heavy Metal, but at the same time very much Black Metal from the 90ies… truly a powerful track! A single track can describe how a band operates, how a band develops its musical line, its creation. The track in question is not a reflexion of the music encapsulated in this record; however, it shows guts as well, besides creative structure. Overall, powerful release!
