Another great release from English label Serpent Sun Records, another album and band I was not aware of, another great surprise! 2025 was indeed a great year for Black Metal, be it Raw, Melodic, Symphonic, etc. Kaosophia comes from Kyiv, Ukraine, and play Black Metal. “Beyond the Black Horizon” is their latest release, and a very good one.

How do you describe the music if you are uncapable of playing an instrument?! Well, not easy. Kaosophia plays what I would call a sort of melodic new approach to Black Metal. Does that make any sense? Where you see “new”, please do not read modern, for these lads to not play modern Black Metal; however, they hardly sound 2^nd wave to me, so…

It has this almost unorthodox sound, in the sense that it does not sound dated, nor modern, it has almost – that word again – ritualistic scent to it, which is tremendous, as it does not fall totally into the mistake many bands make: turn it into an almost literal ritual. Kaosophia “shields” their sound with melody, a darken and somber melody. Reminiscent of the cold and harsh Ukrainian lands, perhaps. Production wise, this is as clean as it has to be. Not too polished, not too grainy, just perfect. And as much as I love dirty-sounding Black Metal, some bands need to have clean production, as it is the only way to truly appreciate all that goes around, and Kaosophia is one of those bands. “Відлуння небуття” is an interesting piece. Slow, melodic, almost repetitive to exhaustion, this track is a banger! The same riff, over and over, pressing… until it falls deep into a much more dynamic layer. It sort of stands out due to its differentiation.
