Czarnobog & Immortal Forest
“Into the Sarmatian Forest”
(Astral Nightmare
Productions, 2022)
Wehrgoat is one of those musicians who deserves a bit more praise than what he receives, in my opinion. I take him as a very honest, serious, and competent musician, that keeps on delivering quality Black Metal time and time again. And that is one of the issues with the growing number of Black Metal bands/projects; it reaches a point where you are totally lost and unaware of who is who, and who released what. Nonetheless, he keeps on moving forward. His sound is very well built, again in my opinion. Melodic structures with bits of melancholy. It has some of that German dark and gloomy Black Metal melodies. This release is no different from what was released previously: 4 tracks, a little over 25 minutes… perfection. He is able to craft these dark moments, yet full of beauty, almost a regulated disruption if you may. As said before, very melancholic, mid-paced melodies, well-conceived structures, fast paced when required.
Love the usage
of keyboards to add more density to the sound and built-up atmospheres.
Immortal Forest, on the other hand, is a much more visceral band. Well, I do
not know if they are, indeed, more visceral, or if the production helps with
that. Nonetheless, the mate from Taiwan is more “in your face” than Wehrgoat.
But hold on, he has some exquisite details to his music. Well buried beneath
all the noise and confusion (not that much), lays a delicate melody, a very
nice melody. This is one of the things I love about the rawer side of Black
Metal: if you pay attention, you will find some hidden treasures, and you will
love it. This is one of them. I was not aware of this project, but it did
surprise me.
