Vornnath
“Litany of the Serpent Wind” (Madre Muerte Productions, 2025)
A deep dive into Vornnath’s “Litany of the Serpent Wind” (2025), a raw, melodic Brazilian Black Metal release blending Nordic and Eastern European influences. Full album review.
Last year was a very solid year in terms of Black Metal. I ended up not doing the AOTY list, mostly because I was not “present” enough to be able to judge which are the best. With that, I am still finding excellent releases from last year and trying to go through all the ones I find. And in comes Brazilian duo composed by S and Anubious. Vornnath was an excellent surprise, one that has been spinning a lot today.
And how does Vornnath sound? Well, at times it sounds Eastern European, others it sounds Nordic, but it always sounds good. It sounds like the Black Metal I take, today, as my favourite: a little bit of melody, a little bit of aggressiveness, a little bit of raw production, and a little bit of clean sound. it sounds cold and it sounds cutting. The guitar riffs are immensely melodic, and that is what might be luring me in. The Nordic influence is strong here, and the melodies are unstoppable! The drumming is spot-on, the vocals are killer, and it has this 90ies thing to it, which makes it even more perfect; the added keyboard is just that cheery on top.
Even though nothing new was created, the way these musicians craft their music around their influences, is quite interesting. I did arrive late to the show, but I found it, ladies and gents, and it is an amazing one!
