Alfarinn / Aamonblut / Götterkrieg
“Nas Profundezas do Caos, sob o Véu da Noite” (Madre Muerte Productions, 2024)

Similar to the way I came to find the Vornnath release, the same happened with this release from Madre Muerte Productions, a split between 3 Brazilian Black Metal bands: Alfarinn, Aamonblut and Götterkrieg. I am familiar with the label’s releases, for the exception of one or two, however, I love the fact that most bands’ sound dates back to the 90ies, use keyboards, and have plenty of melody. I am a bit tired of bands trying to sound raw and “unproduced”; I see myself, today, looking for bands that live within the more melodic – and well-produced – side of Black Metal. That is the sound that I chase today! With that, all 3 bands share that link: melody is ever-present, small Dungeon Synth details, 90ies aura… perfection in my book.

Alfarinn starts off with its keyboard driven Black Metal, and it thankfully reeks of the 90ies. Not much of evolution here, just Black Metal done the old way. As mentioned before, keyboards are the driving force of Alfarinn’s music.

And the next project: Aamonblut. Update: by the time this review is being written, Nefernacht is no longer part of this project, and Warmoon Lord and Krakor are now the masters of the project. Musically speaking, it is not very different from Alfarinn: keyboard driven, 90ies riffs and overall atmosphere. Top tracks, top sound. Aamonblut is slightly more aggressive than its previous “partner”, but still a good listening. Unlike Alfarinn, these lads are still releasing, and its 2025 full-length, “Ride Under the Banner of Darkness”, is a worth checking release.

Gotterkrieg closes the album with 2-tracks of Melodic Black Metal. On a side note, I advise everyone that loves Black Metal done “the old way”, to check “Chronicles of Domination”, Gotterkrieg’s newest release from 2025. Regarding the 2-tracks featured in this Split, Folkish elements, 90ies elements, classical and melodic elements; I dare say it is the strongest part of the album, as well as the strongest project in the split. The drumming is standard 90ies, and I love it! Galloping through the tracks, fiercely and powerful. Outstanding!

In conclusion: a good way to get to know 3 bands from a scene that is diversified and rich. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed.
