Mischievous Wraith
“Hemlock
and Belladona” (Medieval Prophecy Records, 2023)
Medieval Prophecy Records has
been, for a while now, the perfect vessel for the proliferation for quality
Black Metal. Examples like Phlegethon's Majesty, Crypts of Wallachia, Selenite
Scrolls, Forbidden Temple, etc., have shown the World how to play Black Metal
the old way. Each band has its sounds, however there is always a link, a sonic
link that connects all these bands and creates a scene, a circle, in a way.
I forgot to mention that all these bands, along with the label of course, are Belgium, and although the country’s biggest Black Metal export are Enthroned and Ancient, the local scene lives off from bands that play a different sound.
Mischievous Wraith is the most
recent entity to come out of the dirty and mouldy Belgium Black Metal
underground scene, with members coming from various exquisite Black Metal acts
(Phlegethon's Majesty, Crypts of Wallachia, Regnum Tenebrarum, Selenite Scrolls,
and Orkblut), with a sound that will most likely set well with fans of a Black
Metal sound that does not live from violence, nor speed; Mischievous Wraith has
this raw production, very straight forward sound, melodic in its core, even if
a hidden melody it is. Mid-paced at times, faster in others. Overall, this is
an almost perfect homage to the 90ies and all its caustic sound, its
uncompromised attitude, and attention to melody; yes, there is plenty of
melody.
